Top Ten in the World!
Hugo celebrates winning the UK championships in February this year. As the reigning UK Barista Champion, Hugo had the honour of representing the UK at the World Barista Championships in Copenhagen this June. The World Barista Championship, to promote the growth, excellence & recognition in the barista profession. In his fifteen minutes of fame, where he had to make four espressos, four cappuccinos and a signature drink of his own invention, he scored a very respectable 672.5 points out of 1012, less than 15 short of a place in the final 6. This put him in 10th place overall out of 52 nations, or as he prefers to think of it...10th in the universe.
Hugo used a blend developed in association with Origin Coffee's  roasters, made up of 60% Brazilian Fazenda Lagoa, 20% Rwandan Misozi co-op and 20% El Salvador Las Delicias Pacamara..soon to make an appearance at Relish. He even used Delabole based Bradleys' milk in his cappuccino; if it's good enough for our customers, it's good enough for the world championships.
The winner was the talented and charming Stephen Morrissey from Ireland, currently to be found at Square Mile Coffee Roasters, home to a couple of other coffee world champions....
